About the Orchestra

The Claremont Symphony Orchestra is embarking on its fifty-seventh season, under the leadership of James Fahringer, Music Director. Other conductors for the season are Larry Lowder, Gina Shaw, Gary Iida, and Jacob van Velzen. The new season will include many different musical experiences featuring a variety of soloists.

Established in 1953 as a non-profit organization in California, the Symphony is composed of almost 100 talented musicians from numerous locations around Southern California, dedicating their time and talents to provide musically enriching, free concerts for Claremont, the Pomona Valley, the San Gabriel Valley, and the Inland Empire.

The opening concert of the new season will be on Sunday afternoon, October 18, in Bridges Hall of Music, Claremont, at 3:30 p.m. Featuring music by American composers, the program will be conducted by Jacob van Velzen, with baritone soloist James Fahringer singing old American Songs by Aaron Copland.
