Our Conductors

Dr. Robert Sage, CSO and CYSO Music Director

Robert Sage has been Music Director of the Claremont Symphony Orchestra since 2011. He presently also conducts the Claremont Youth Symphony Orchestra and the Buddha's Light Youth Symphony Orchestra, and has conducted a number of other orchestras in both symphonic and operatic repertoire. His Doctorate in Piano Performance was taken at the University of Southern California.

Dr. Ruth Charloff, CSO Associate Conductor

Ruth Charloff has been CSO Associate Conductor since 2012. She directs the UCR Orchestra, Chamber Singers, and Chorale at the University of California, Riverside. Her D.M.A. in Orchestral Conducting is from Northwestern University, and her M.A. is from the University of California, Berkeley. At UC Riverside she has taught conducting, instrumentation, 20th-century music history, and Introduction to Western Music.

Alan Medak, Guest Conductor

Alan Medak is a longtime Claremont resident. Earning his bachelor’s degree in music from Lawrence University in Appleton, WI, he then attended graduate school at Lamont School of Music in Denver. While in Denver he became the Music Director and Conductor with the Tabor Opera Company. Since moving to Los Angeles, in addition to playing French horn in numerous local orchestras, Mr. Medak was a co-founder of the Vineyard Touring Opera Company, where he currently serves as Music Director. Mr. Medak is also a regular guest conductor with orchestras and ensembles in the Los Angeles area.​
